NENU CSC Scholarship Admission Guide “High-level Graduates” Program(Type-B), 2025 Intake

I. Applicant Qualifications

1. Non-Chinese citizens.

2. Applicants should be in good health, possess excellent academic performance and character, and adhere to Chinese laws and regulations.

3. Applicants should not receive any other Chinese government scholarships at any level simultaneously.

4. Educational and age requirements:

1)Master’s Program: Must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with outstanding academic performance and be under 35 years of age.

2)Doctoral Program: Must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent with outstanding academic performance and be under 40 years of age.

5. Language Requirements:

Chinese-taught programs(Meet one of the following conditions):

1)HSK Level 5 with a score above 180.

2)Those who obtained a degree from a Chinese university with Chinese as the language of instruction.

3)If applicants meet HSK Level 3 with a score above 180, they may apply for a one-year Chinese language preparatory course.

English-taught programs(Meet one of the following conditions):

1)TOEFL score of 80 or higher, or IELTS score of 6.0 or higher.

2)English is the applicant’s native/official language.

3)Applicants who obtained a degree using English as the medium of instruction.

VI. Scholarship Coverage

1. Tuition and on-campus accommodation fees are waived.

2. Monthly living allowance is provided (RMB 3,500/month for Ph.D. students and RMB 3,000/month for Master’s students).

3. Comprehensive medical insurance during the study period in China.

V. Application Documents

1. Copy of passport main page and any Chinese visa pages (if applicable). The passport should be valid beyond September 2025.

2. Notarized highest diploma. Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status issued by their current school. Applicants must get the final diploma before September 2025. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

3. Academic transcripts(from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic records from the first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate(if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

4. Language proficiency certificates. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must submit a valid HSK 5 transcript. Applicants who have received a degree from a Chinese university using Chinese as the language of instruction must provide corresponding supporting documents. Applicants for English-taught programs must provide a TOEFL score of 80 or an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, or if they have obtained a degree using English as the language of instruction, they must provide the corresponding supporting documents.

5. A study plan/ research proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1000 characters or words; the proposal for a doctoral student shall be signed by the applicant’s Chinese supervisor.

6. Recommendation letters. Two letters of recommendation(written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors shall be submitted. The letters should be signed by the recommenders and indicate their identity and contact information. These letters shall describe the applicant’s objective of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth, as well as the cooperation between the supervisors or the exchange between universities both in China and abroad.

7. Portfolio(if applicable). Applicants for arts or design programs should submit examples of personal work( such as videos or artwork).

8. A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The form is made by the Chinese quarantine authority and must be completed in English. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

9. Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-criminal record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months before the submission date of the application.

10. Academic achievement materials. Academic papers published and proof of patents, etc.

11. Conditional Acceptance Letter from a professor (if any). Applicants may contact the intended supervisor to apply for the Conditional Acceptance Letter, but it is not a must-have document.

12. Other supporting documents required by the International Students Office.

Reminder: Uploaded documents should be clear, authentic, and valid. Applicants are recommended to use a professional device to scan the relevant documents. Applicants shall bear the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable uploaded documents.

4. Application Procedures

Step 1: Apply through the NENU International Student Service System

Log into the NENU International Student Service System (http://studyatnenu.nenu.edu.cn or https://nenu.17gz.org), complete and submit the application form (Click for the Application Guide).

Step 2: Review and Online Interview

ISO, together with relevant departments, will review the applicant’s academic, language, and professional qualifications and conduct online interviews as needed. Notifications will be sent via email.

Step 3:Preliminary Review and Candidate Selection

By mid-March, ISO will complete the initial review, confirm the list of candidates, and issue pre-admission notices via email.

Step 4: Submit the CSC Scholarship Application

Nominated Candidates should then complete the application through the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System.

● The program category should be Type B, and the agency number of Northeast Normal University is 10200. The Agency Number represents a specific application receiving agency and a correct choice of Program Category is necessary before filling in the Agency Number. Please make sure you fill it out correctly, otherwise, you will not be able to continue your online application which may result in your application not being accepted.

● Upload and save the documents and submit the application. The uploaded application must include the Pre-admission Notice issued by Northeast Normal University. Candidates who do not complete the online application on time will be disqualified from candidacy.

Step 5:Final Review and Admission

Based on the principle of “individual application – institutional recommendation – expert evaluation – merit-based admission”, the China Scholarship Council organizes experts to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the candidate’s academic performance, comprehensive ability, and development potential and selects the best candidate for admission.

VII.Note

1. Applicants should submit applications directly to Northeast Normal University, and should not submit their applications through any agency; if found, the scholarship application will be disqualified.

2. If necessary, we will contact the applicants by email (admission@nenu.edu.cn) to submit the appropriate supporting documents, please make sure to fill in the accurate contact email address.

3. NENU will inform the applicants of the final result of the admission via email before the end of July.

4. CSC Scholarship recipients are not allowed to receive financial support from CSC and other scholarships (excluding all kinds of one-time scholarships) provided by the Chinese government at all levels and the host university at the same time; once discovered, their eligibility for the CSC Scholarships shall be canceled, and they shall be required to return the scholarship they have already received. For those who deliberately conceal their financial support situation, in addition to disqualification, they will not be allowed to apply for CSC Scholarships within three years.

5. Scholarship will not be reserved if scholarship recipients cannot register before the registration deadline. Scholarship recipients shall not invite family members without permission from the host university.

6. Scholarship recipients are required to submit all application documents at the beginning of the school year. Applicants are responsible for the authenticity of the information and materials submitted. In case of discrepancies, Northeast Normal University reserves the right to cancel the admission status and the enrolled students’ academic status.

7. Scholarship recipients must attend the annual review by the regulations. Failure to pass the evaluation will result in suspension or cancellation of the scholarship qualification.

8. In principle, scholarship recipients are not allowed to change their study majors and study periods.
